The Senate Banking and Currency Committee today opened hearings on the implementation of President Truman’s “Point Four” program to lend American technical aid and investments to Israel and other underdeveloped areas of the world.
Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder and Undersecretary of State James E. Webb testified on guarantees to U.S. investors interested in foreign development, urging American investment abroad. Winthrop Aldrich, chairman of President Truman’s Advisory Committee on Foreign Trade, who also testified, said that it is “very important to encourage private investment abroad.”
Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas called on President Truman at the White House today and later said he told the Chief Executive about his impressions of Israel and other countries he visited during his recent trip to the Near East.
