LONDON (Aug. 30)
A dispute has developed here between the Motor and Cycle Trades Benevolent Fund and Yehudi Menuhin, world-renowned violinist, who signed a contract with the labor organization to give a recital on the evening of October 2, which falls on Yom Kippur eve.
Mr. Menuhin stated that he was apprised of the fact that the scheduled date of his recital was the eve of the Day of Atonement only after he had signed the contract with the union. He said he would not be able to perform that evening, but the union has refused to change the date of the performance, threatening legal action if Mr. Menuhin fails to appear. Union officials pointed out that all tickets for the benefit have been sold.
