The first country-wide conference of the women’s section of Hapoel Hamizrachi of Israel opened here today with 125 delegates in attendance. The delegates represent 10,000 women in all parts of the Jewish state enrolled in the organization.
The conference agenda includes consideration of aid for newly-arrived immigrants, establishment of religious institutions for children and training of religious girls for agricultural and industrial careers. Speakers addressing the opening session emphasized that the most “burning problem” facing women in Israel today is the question of women’s status. It is expected that the problem of women’s service in the armed forces of Israel, as well as such questions as women’s rights in inheritance cases, will be aired.
