Opposition to the establishment of any universal authoritative rabbinic body under whatever name was expressed here today by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada. The Union sent a cable to the Chief Rabbinate In Israel which reads:
“At a meeting of our executive a resolution was unanimously adopted declaring that our organization most emphatically protests against any attempt toward creation of a universal authoritative Rabbinic body under whatever name. Public life is too dominated by political trends, factionalism and strife. Our generation is orphaned and poor in outstanding Rabbinic authorities. The establishment of any such sole authority would endanger the future of our faith.”
