Former Adviser on Jewish Affairs to U.S. Army Criticizes German Denazification Program

The American Military Government’s program of denazification in Germany was criticized here this week-end by Prof. William Haber, former American adviser on Jewish affairs to the American High Command in Germany. “We have bungled badly and failed completely in denazification and democratizing Germany,” he declared.

“Germany may emerge again in another quarter of a century as a threat to the peace of Europe unless we concentrate in extending the democratic forces in their political, social and economic life to achieve a greater democracy than they have thus far,” Dr. Haber added. He cited statistics indicating that the large numbers of former Nazi officials being returned to positions of power and authority in the industrial, economic and political life of Germany.
