Jews in South Africa were puzzled today over a statement made yesterday by South African Premier Daniel F. Malan containing a reference to Jewish organizations.
Replying to recent criticism voiced by former Premier Field Marshal Jan Smuts with regard to the Broedersbond, an alleged Afrikaaner secret organization, Dr. Malan said: “If we are to institute an inquiry into secret organizations, the Broedersbond, the Sons of England, the Freemasons and Jewish organizations must all be included in such an inquiry.” Jewish leaders here today pointed out that there are no Jewish secret organizations existing in South Africa.
