The United Communal Fund for South African Jewry — the first consolidated effort at budgetary planning for the Jewish community’s own needs here — has been launched under auspicious circumstances, with every indication that the drive will be “epoch-making,” an announcement issued by the Fund’s headquarters here said today.

The campaign’s goal has been set at 500,000 pounds (approximately $1,400,000). The Fund’s resources are intended to cover the budgets of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, the South African and Cape town Boards of Jewish Education, the Union of Jewish Women and to aid small rural communities whose own resources are now inadequate to cover the cost of communal services.
