The local Jewish National Fund committee has dispatched 1,300 tons of kosher meat to Israel at a cost of 440,000 pesos. Fourteen ritual slaughterers were required to complete the work of preparing the meat for shipment. The Argentine vessel Rio Gallegos is carrying the food directly to the port of Haifa.
Leaders of the United Israel Campaign told a representative of the Yiddishe Zeitung, largest Jewish newspaper here, that communities outside Buenos Aires have already reached their quotes for the current year. The leaders predicted that 80 percent of last year’s drive total will be reached in the current effort by the end of 1949.
