Jewish Member of British Parliament Asks Action Against Anti-semitic Propaganda

David Weitzman, Laborite Member of the House of Commons, last night raised the issue of unrest in North London as a result of what he described as scurrilous statements by British Fascists against Jews and the Jewish faith which, he declared, had led in some instances to violence. The member urged that “this violent and poisonous propaganda be brought to an end” in strict application of the Public Order Act.

Major Kenneth Younger, Undersecretary of the Home Office, replied that the Public Order Act did not refer to “insults” but only to disturbances of the peace. He said, however, that he had instructed the police to intervene when utterances were “likely” to lead to disorders and not to wait until disorders actually occur.
