More than 1,500 Los Angeles Jews turned out last night to welcome Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath at the 15th annual Hanukkah banquet of the Jewish National Fund here. The dinner marked the formal launching of an effort to redeem a tract of land in the Negev in honor of Theodore Strimling, veteran Los Angeles Zionist leader.
Paying tribute to the achievements of the J.N.F., Ambassador Elath emphasized the strategic importance of the organization in the establishment of Israel and in the agricultural development program for immigrant absorption. He stressed that the Jewish state “needs the Jewish National Fund as never before.”
