Various Jewish organizations today issued statements in connection with the decision of the Israel Parliament to move itself from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Pledging that the Zionist Organization of America will “stand behind the Government of Israel in its determination to restore Jerusalem to its ancient glory as the capital of the Jewish state,” Daniel Frisch, Z.O.A. president, said: “What the Parliament of Israel has done was to tell the world what everybody cognizant of the true situation has always known, namely, that Jerusalem is the heart of the Jewish people and that no force in the world can be permitted to sever it from the living body of Israel.”

Rabbi Irving Miller, president of the American Jewish Congress, speaking for that organization, stated: “The civilized world for centuries has linked Jerusalem with the Jewish people. The restoration of Jerusalem to the body of which it has always been the heart may be accepted by all men of good will and religious sentiment as fullest assurance that Jerusalem will be safeguarded with the same loving and sacred concern with which Jews have cherished the city throughout its millennial history, and which the Israel government and people have already shown throughout the land for the religious sensibilities and the sacred sites of all faiths.”

Eli Eliashar, president of the Sephardic community in Jerusalem and deputy in the Knesset, speaking at a meeting arranged under the auspices of the American ORT Federation, said that the Sephardim party which he represented had demanded in the Israel parliament that the seat of the Knesset and of the government be transferred immediately to Jerusalem.
