The liner Wooster Victory landed at Haifa harbor with 385 immigrants from Shanghai and 460 from European countries. The trip was financed by the Joint Distribution Committee.
The newcomers from Shanghai received considerate treatment from the Chinese Communists, they said, but they were permitted to take out only a limited quantity of personal effects and no more than $30 each. They added that 1,500 Jews who remained at Harbin all wished to come to Israel as soon as possible.
