Mosley Threatens to Picket Any British Theatre Showing “sword in the Desert”

The Union Movement, led by Sir Oswald Moslsy, head of the pre-war British Union of Fascists, announced today that its members wuld picket any theatre–whather in London or in “a village in the most remote part of Britain”–where the Hollywood movie, “Sword in the Desert,” is shown. The film depicts the fighting in Palestine between Jews and Britons before the establishment of Israel.

A smoke bomb was thrown into a leading London theatre Thursday night during the premiers of the film, As a reault, the London County Council ordered exhibition of the film stopped, declaring that it feared that further showings would bring serious trouble, Outside the theatre, Mosleyites had distributed leaflets calling the film “an insult to British dead.”
