Sixty-eight Jews are listed among the 1,750 candidates nominated for the British elections, scheduled to be held Feb. 23, it was disclosed today. The 68 Jews include 37 Laborites, 16 Liberals, nine Communists, five Conservatives and one Independent.
A new anti-Jewish publication, “Free Britain,” issued by Britain’s Publishing Company, which printed the English edition of the notorious “Protocols of the Elders of Zien,” made its appearance here in connection with the current national election campaign. The publication urges voters to cast ballots only for avowedly anti-Jewish candidates.
Another anti-Semitic news sheet which is being published during the campaign is “Gothic Ripples.” It carries a list of candidates which it considers “Jewish.” Its publisher is Arnold Leese, notorious British anti-Semite.
Anti-Semitic agitators are threatening to break up meetings of jewish candidates campaigning in Manchester in the current election, Reynolds News reported today. Horace Newbold, secretary of the Manchester and Salford Trades Council, is reported to have charged that “roughs are being recruited by Fascist agents” and “bears out the contention of the Trades Council which several months ago approached the Chief Constable, warning him that continued tolerance of the anti-Semitic bodies in the district would lead to viclence and hooliganism.”
Meanwhile, the Manchester Union of Jewish Ex-Servicemen, anticipating attempts to interfere with meetings of Jewish electoral candidates, has decided to send observers to all such future meetings. Meanwhile, distribution of a 32-page pamphlet, “Proclamation of London of European Liberation Front,” began today in various parts of Britain. The leaflet demands the “immediate expulsion of all Jews and other parasitic aliens from the soil of Europe.”
