The Congressional Record today carries a report by the House Committee on Un-American Activities attacking Professor Albert Einstein. The report was prepared at the request of Congressman John E. Rankin of Mississippi, who is known for his anti-Jewish sentimonts.
Yesterday, Rep. Rankin, speaking on the House floor, said that Professor Einstein “had nothing to do” with the development of the atom bomb and “should have been deported” from the United States years ago.
At Dr. Einstein’s home in Princeton, N.J., it was said today that he would make no comment on Rep. Rankin’s outburst. Sciontists here, taking issue with the Mississippi Congressman, said that Dr. Einstein had “just about everything to do” with making possible American development of the atom bomb. (In Toyko today, Professor Einstein was elected an honorary member of the Imperial Academy, highest Japanese sciontific and cultural society.)
