Plans to anend the restitution laws already in effect, particularly the one dealing with the return of real property to Jews and other victims of the Nazis, are “well advanced,” Dr. Rudolf Braun, vice-president of the Vienna Jewish Community, warned today. He also voiced the Community’s opposition to amendment of the measures already in effect.

It has been learned that communal leaders have received pledges from Chancellor Leopold Figl and Vice-Chancellor Adolf Schaerf that the restitution laws will not be changed. Minister of Justice Otto Tschadek has also stated that it would not be advisable — as requested by former Nazi owners of property restored to Nazi victims — to reopen restitution cases, 71 percent of which have been completed.
