The State Department still considers it “desirable” that Arab states should be “generally strengthened for defensive purposes,” Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., of Massachusetts was informed today in a letter from Assistant Secretary of State Jack K. McFall.

Writing for Secretary of State Dean Acheson, McFall said that “an analysis of information available to the Department indicates that no party to the Palestine dispute is making serious preparations to renew hostilities.”
