Trygve Lie, Secretary-General of the United Nations, tonight greeted the triennial convention of B’nai B’rith, praising the organization for its work in behalf of “better human relations.” He spoke at a banquet here.
“Just as B’nai B’rith is working for these results in the American community and the American nation, so the United Nations is working for the same objectives in the whole world,” he said. “The human rights provisions of the United Nations Charter were greatly strengthened in San Francisco by the influence of the non-governmental organizations like B’nai B’rith, who were there as consultants or observers.”
“Already the new republics of Israel and Indonesia have borrowed from the declaration in the drafting of the constitutional provisions for the human rights of their peoples,” Mr. Lie pointed out.
