An impressive carnival demonatrating Jerusalem’s ties with its hinterland took place this week-end when members of 25 settlements in the “Jerusalem Corridor” arrived in the city in a mile-long procession. They paraded in Jerusalem’s main streets, exhibiting their agricultural and dairy products.
Assembled at the MCA sports grounds, which were decorated with Israel flags, the settlers were greeted by Mayor Daniel Auster and representatives of the Israel Government. Children from the settlements who formed a considerable part of the procession presented a play whose thems was the determination of the population to make Jerusalem the capital of Israel.
A large party of well-armed Arab infiltrees from Transjordan last night attacked a Bedouin camp in Israel territory, in the area of Beersheba, killing one of the chiefs of the tribe and making off with an entire herd of cattle. The attackers were driven off after neighboring camps rushed to the aid of the Bedouins.
