Anti-discrimination recommendations will be studied by 85 colleges and universities in the Middle Atlantic area following a “crack-the-quota” conference here, which concluded today. The meeting developed as a result of a national conference in Chicago last November held by the American Council on Education in cooperation with the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League.
Representatives of the institutions attending the parley here concluded that rejection of school applicants because of “race, creed, or national origin is unjustifiable and un-American.” While admitting that the proposals were not unanimously adopted, Dr. Walter E. Hager, chairman of the meeting and president of Wilson Teachers College, reported adoption of a number of recommendations leading to liberalization of entrance barriers against minority group members.
George Washington University, which was recently accused of bigotry, was the only major institution in the nearby area which was not represented.
