More than 15,000 persons jammed the local stadium to participate in a mass demonstration marking the second anniversary of Israel Independence Day. Representatives of the local and provincial administration and Dr. Samuel Malamud, Israel consul in Rio de Janeiro, were present at the affair.

The Jewish community’s celebration of the anniversary was opened with a radio broadcast by community president M. Felmanas and special religious services. Later, a reception was held at the home of Sr. Felmanas for Dr. Malamud and the consuls of 14 nations who are stationed at Sao Paulo.

In Rio de Janeiro, thousands of persons celebrating the Israel anniversary cheered the hoisting of the new state’s flag in front of the Theatre of the Republic. Local Zionist leaders and government officials participated in the impressive ceremonies, which included a parade of Jewish school children and an athletic contest. Special religious services and dances were also arranged in honor of the Jewish state’s second anniversary.
