Israel Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett today hailed the American-British-French declaration of last week promising to supply arms for defensive purposes to Israel as well as the Arab states. Mr. Sharett described the new Allied policy as an “important step forward” for the Near East.
Yesterday, Premier Daniel F. Malan and members of the South African Cabinet received the Israel Foreign Minister. When Mr. Sharett arrived at the airport at Johannesburg he was met by a delegation representing the government, the municipality and the Jewish community. Paul Sauer, Minister of Transport, represented the government; Mayor Jack Mincer, a Jew, represented the city administration; and Edwar Gotein and Bernard Gering, represented the Jewish community.
