H. Dunker, former deputy chief of the Gestapo in Marseilles, shouted “long live Germany” as he faced a firing squad here today, almost three years after being sentenced to death for war crimes.
A military court found him guilty in January, 1947, of having caused the arrest and deportation of Jews and French patriots during the German occupation. He was also said to have tortured underground members. His execution was postponed several times so that he could give evidence in the trials of collaborators.
