The House today passed the compromise Displaced Persons Bill without debate, extending the DP Act and increasing the number of refugees who will be permitted to onter. A Senate vote is expected tomorrow.
The new bill provides for the admission of 341,000 DP immigrants up to June 30, 1951. This total includes the 150,000 DP’s who entered under the Act of 1948. In addition, some 54,000 “Volksdeutsch” are admitted as immigrants under the bill. Among the other groups permitted to enter are 18,000 former members of Gen. Wladislaw Anders Army and 10,000 war orphans. About 15,000 refugees who are now in this country will be permitted to remain as regular immigrants.
