Eddie Cantor, National Campaign Chairman of the United Jewish Appoal, today arrived here from Israel where he spent more than two weeks in behalf of the U.J.A. During his visit Mr. Canter conferred with President Weizmann, Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and other government leaders and officers of the Jewish Agency.

Upon his arrival here Mr. Canter spoke glowingly of the people and enterprises he saw during his Israel trip. He referred to the Jewish state as the “land of miracles” and outlined the sacrifices of the Israelis to take in 400,000 immigrants in two years and to attempt to provide homes and jobs for them.

In an appeal for all-out support of the U.J.A., Mr. Canter declared that American dollars are valuable allies of the Israelis in their program of rescuing their brother Jews. He contrasted the austerity program in Israel with the American standard of living, adding that austerity alone is not the answer to Israel’s problems. He pointed out that money was needed to buy machine tools, raw materisla and medical supplies for the new immigrants.
