The protection of Jewish communities abroad was disoussed here today at the conference of Jewish organizations from the British Commonwealth countries.
Barnett Janner, British Jewish leader, who introduced the subject, declared that “it would be a good thing if one united organization could represent Jewish interests” in the matter. He added, however, that some important Jewish bodies in France, the United States and elsewhere have indicated that they would not join such an organization.
The subjects on today’s agenda included: the draft covenant of human rights; the draft genocide convention and Britain’s failure to ratify it; the fato of Jewish war orphans in non-Jewish homes and institutions; and restitution in Germany and Austria. The World Jewish Congress tonight gave a reception in honor of the delegates to the Commonwealth conference.
A reception in honor of United States Solicitor-General Philip Perlman, who is in London attending an international law conference, was tendered here last night by the London office of the American Jewish Committee. Among the guests were Ewen Montagu, president of the Anglo-Jewish Association; B.A. Etlinger, president of the South African Board of Jewish Deputies, Frank Goldman, B’nai B’rith president and other prominent American, British, Canadian and Australian Jewish leaders.
