Dr. Charles C. Kastenbaum, the Jewish physician, was one of the attending physicians at St. Joseph Hospital for Chest Diseases where the plaque was unveiled. He died on May 22. Cardinal Spellman said of him during the ceremony: “With great respect and deep love he served the poor, his life was dedicated to showing God’s mercy to all who sought his assistance.”
