Rabbi Levinson Arrives in Berlin to Take Up Duties As Head of Jewish Community

Rabbi Nathan Levinson, new spiritual head of the Jewish community of both East and West Berlin, arrived here today from the United States to take up his duties.

Rabbi Levinson, a native of Berlin, left here during the Nazi regime for the United States where he studied at the University of Cincinnati and the Hebrew Union College before being ordained. He succeeds Rabbi Stephen Schwarzschild, who has returned to the U.S. Rabbi Levinson will serve the entire Jewish community of Berlin, albout 8,000 persons, of whom 3,000 live in the Soviet sector.
