American Jewish Committee Protests Cut in “point-four Program” Appropriation

Restoration of the Senate-approved appropriation for the Point-Four Program for help to underdeveloped areas was urged upon House of Representative leaders by the American Jewish Committee this week-end in telegrams sent by Jacob Blaustein, president of the Committee.

“Point-Four is the vital affirmative arm of American foreign policy in the cold and hot war, as a weapon against Communists in underdeveloped areas,” the American Jewish Committee told the Congressional leaders, adding that it is therefore “urgent that Congress restore the appropriation approved by the Senate to enable the United States to execute an effective program against subversion and totalitarianism.” Mr. Blaustein, announcing the Committee’s action, declared that “the improvement of conditions and standards of living of the peoples in the underdeveloped areas is an essential preliminary condition for the growth of the democratic spirit and of friendship for America.”
