A public meeting was held by the Jews of this city today to protest against reports that the Australian Government is considering a proposal by the Foreign Ministers of Britain, France and the United States that it accept German volksdeutsche refugees from Eastern Europe as immigrants to the Dominion.
The meeting sent a resolution to the government pointing out that “suitable migrants are available without importing Nazis and anti-Semites.” It further stated that the volksdeutsche are a “grave menace to Australian democracy and a direct threat to the Jewish community.” It said that a majority of the Germans had aided the German armies in the slaughtering of millions of persons, including Jews.
