Municipal authorities of all sectors of this city today issued statements declaring that all Jews employed by the municipality will be excused from duty on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The High Holy Days will be regarded as an official holiday for Jews, the statement said, and they will receive full pay. The authorities also asked private enterprises here to follow suit.
The largest synagogue in Western Germany, which was destroyed by the Nazis in November, 1938 and completely rebuilt since 1945, will be dedicated Sept. 6 in Frankfurt. The synagogue seats approximately 1,000 worshippers.
George N. Shuster, United States Commissioner for Bavaria and former president of Hunter College in New York, today presented a check for $300 for the needy children of the Munich Jewish community. The money was obtained through voluntary contributions by students of Hunter College.
