A total of 2,626 immigrants arrived at the port of Haifa Sunday in four liners from Poland, Rumania, North Africa and other countries.
The Israel liner Artzah, completing the first direct Gdynia-Haifa voyage by an Israel vessel, brought 539 Polish immigrants. The Rumanian steamer Transylvania carried 1,521 immigrants and the Negbah brought 313 immigrants from North Africa.
The left-wing newspaper Al Hamishmar reported today that Rumanian Jews who have applied for emigration permits since the end of April are now receiving these documents. The resumption of the permit issuance, according to the paper, has caused great joy among prospective emigrants.
More than 14,300 immigrants arrived in Israel during the month of July, 1950, and some 72,500 arrived during the first half of the year, it was officially announced here by the government statistical office. Thirty-four percent of the immigrants who arrived in 1950 came from countries in Asia; 23 percent from countries in Africa; 42 percent from Europe and six percent from America.
