Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national chairman of the United Jewish Appeal since 1939, left by air yesterday for a three-week survey of Jewish emigration and resettlement needs in Europe and Israel. Dr. Wise, who is also vice-chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, heads the American delegation to the annual directors’ conference of the J.D.C., which will open in Paris on October 8 with J.D.C. directors’ of 20 areas in Europe and the Middle East in attendance. Dr. Wise’s visit to Israel on October 15 will mark his first trip to the Jewish state.
