Three former inmates of the notorious Oswiecim concentration camp testified for the prosecution today in magistrate’s court in the second Israel war crimes trial against a woman. The defendant, Ria Hanes, was charged with beating and mistreating a number of women detained in the Nazi camp.
Witnesses told the court today that camp inmates were beaten by her with rubber truncheons while in other cases the prisoners were ordered to kneel for hours at length while holding bricks in their outstretched hands. One witness said she recognized the Hanes woman while she was employed as an ambulance nurse at Pardess Hannah.
