House Majority Leader John W. McCormack last night declared that it was time to include Israel “as a beneficiary of funds established by the United States to aid democratic nations financially.” Describing the new state as “an ally of the U.S.” and a “truly democratic nation,” Rep. McCormack said:

“Israel should be included in our defense program along the lines of the Marshall Plan in the same manner as other democratic nations who are receiving assistance to resist aggression. Israel is the only land in the Near East the U.S. can rely on. In Israel there exists the fullest expression of freedom, free elections, a free press and the dignity of the individual is recognized on the basis of complete equality.” Rep. McCormack spoke at a meeting of Temple B’nai Moshe, in Brighton.
