The Government of Afghanistan has decided to permit Jews living in that Moslem country to proceed to Israel on condition that the “movement is slow and orderly,” Afghanistan officials informed H. Cynowicz, chairman of the Zionist Organization here.
Mr. Cynowicz has been in touch with the Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi since the beginning of this year, appealing for permission to allow the 4,500 Jews in that country to leave for Israel. The Indian Government issued several hundred visas to Afghan Jews to permit them to reach Israel, but since the Pakistani authorities refused to grant the Jews transit permits, the emigrants are leaving for the Jewish state by way of Iran.
The first such group has already left Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, and is en route to Israel via Iran. It is expected that the Kabul regime’s decision assures the gradual removal of all Jews from Afghanistan to Israel.
