A representative of Jordan, at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, appeared today to be seeking to question the validity of the Israel-Jordan armistice agreement signed at Rhodes.
Youssef Hiekal, the Jordanian representative, asked Dr. Ralph J. Bunche if he remembered the credentials of the Jordanian representative who signed the map for Jordan. Dr. Bunche, who was the U.N. mediator at Rhodes, read the text of the credentials to the Security Council, wherein it was stated that “they” — ##ring the Jordanian delegation — were authorized to sign any agreement reached.
Pointing out that the map had been signed only by the delegation’s head, Mr. Hiekal asked Dr. Bunche whether the latter agreed that in the light of the pronoun “they” the map had not been improperly authenticated by Jordan. Dr. Bunche insisted that it was the usual procedure to have only the signature of the head of a delegation.
