A committee of prominent professionals and laymen has been established to select qualified trained American social workers to take up a 15-month assignment to help rehabilitate and establish newly arriving immigrants in Israel, it was announced here today by the National Committee to Select Social Workers for Israel.
Included in the 15 month assignment with Malben, social welfare agency jointly established in Israel by the Israel Government, the Jewish Agency and the Joint Distribution Committee, is a three month orientation course. The committee’s announcement said that round-trip fare will be paid for those who complete the 15-month contract. The salary offered for case workers and supervisors “is sufficient for maintaining a reasonably adequate standard of living in Israel,” the announcement added.
Case workers should be under 40 years of age, experienced graduates of a recognized social service school or its equivalent and should have a working knowledge of Yiddish, German and French. For supervisory personnel the age limit is 45, the education and experience qualifications are the same as for case workers, except that they must have had five years of supervisory experience.
