A Conference on Jewish Education and Culture, arranged by the Jewish Agency, opened here last night under the chairmanship of Dr. Henri Braun, president of the World Hebrew Union. Dr. Braun emphasized in his opening remarks that “Jewish culture must once more show the way to a world threatened by idolatry, totalitarianism and mechanization.”
Maurice Fischer, Israel Minister to France, declared that Jewish culture in countries outside Israel should be at least on the same level as the culture of those countries. Jacob Halevy, president of the Zionist Federation of Britain, deplored the lack of Jewish culture in England, “despite the considerable number of Jews there.” The parley will continue for a week.
