Chaplain Milton J. Rosen, of Chicago, has been assigned to an Army unit in Korea, it was announced today by the National Jewish Welfare Board’s Division of Religious Activities. Chaplain Rosen, who recently completed three-and-a-half years of active duty, including a period in Japan, will join three other Jewish chaplains now on duty in Korea.
There are now 27 rabbis serving as chaplains with the armed forces throughout the world. In addition to these, 19 rabbis were recently endorsed by the J.W.B. Division of Religious Activities, and those that meet the physical requirements will soon enter the service.
A call to the civilian community of America “to take to its collective heart the members of the armed forces and make them welcome in the community,” was made here last night by Frank L. Weil, chairman of President Truman’s Committee on Religion and Welfare in the Armed Forces. Mr. Weil addressed 150 lay and professional representatives from 96 Jewish Community Centers in the metropolitan area assembled at the 37th annual meeting of the National Jewish Welfare Board’s New York metropolitan section.
