Intensifying its campaign for the internationalization of Jerusalem, the Vatican press–for the second time within a week–publishes articles emphasizing that the Vatican does not agree to any solution of the Jerusalem problem other than to place the city and its environs under international trusteeship.

The press campaign is receiving new impetus in view of the fact that the Jerusalem issue will soon come before the United Nations General Assembly. The Catholic newspaper, II Quotidiano, in an editorial, criticizes the joint proposal on Jerusalem offered by the Dutch and Canadian delegations at the United Nations. “The Holy See also believes that freedom for all Catholic institutions in Palestine must be guaranteed and that the historical rights of Catholicism must be protected,” the article declares.

The newspaper, Il Popolo, a Christian Democratic Party daily, carries a lengthy article by Italian Senator Igino Jordani calling on all Catholic organizations and newspapers to enter the campaign for the establishment of an international trust over Jerusalem and its envirous, including Nazareth and Bethlehem. The Senator denounces the attitude of the United States, Britain and France toward internationalization and scores “Protestant indifference.”
