Immigrants in Israel Moved from Camps to Independent Life, Minister Reports

Almost 250,000 recent immigrants have left trans##t and work camps to become independent members of Israel’s economic society, Golda person, Minister of Labor, today reported to the Parliament.

Mrs. Myerson also stated that some 17,000 persons are still living in semiarnanent work camps throughout the country–3,500 in ordinary canvas tents and the ##emainder in aluminum-canvas houses. Describing the miserable conditions under which the newcomers live, Mrs. Myerson said that provision must be made for 50,000 immigrants before the worst of the winter weather sets in.Addressing a national conference of Israel youth leaders and teachers, Moshekol, member of the Jewish Agency executive, said that in the seven years of its existance the Youth Aliyah department of the Agency has settled in Israel 50,000 youths from 67 countries. All the youths were absorbed in 200 collectives and private settlements and are receiving training under the supervision of 2,000 specialiste, he reported.

Mr. Kol also revealed that the Swedish non-Jewish organization which resently contributed $100,000 for the foundation of a village to be called Reda Bernen, near Jerusalem, had also contributed thirty tons of clothing for distribution among young immigrants in Israel.
