The Israel delegation at the United Nations today began consultations with other U.N. delegations for the purpose of introducing a resolution embodying the Israel suggestions for a peace settlement in Korea.

Israel delegates indicate that they consider present conditions favorable for a resolution based along the “line of approach” suggested by Israel last week. However, they are anxious to have joint, rather than individual, sponsorship of such a resolution and they are seeking to develop this collective sponsorship. It is hoped, but is by no means certain, that a formal proposal based on the Israel cease-fire formula can be introduced when the U.N. Political Committee meets on Thursday. Other wise it would probably be delayed until next week.

Soviet delegate Jacob A. Malik last night criticized the Israel suggestions because they provide for graduated withdrawals of “non-Korean” forces, instead of the immediate withdrawal of “foreign”–meaning United Nations–forces, but did not criticize other points. This lad to the belief that the Soviet Union might be inclined to accept the Israel-sponsored plan.
