The Government of Israel continues to maintain its open-door policy and will admit even more immigrants from now on because of the urgent need to save the lives of Jews who must leave the lands in which they now reside, first public address in the United States.
The Minister emphasized that no one in Israel is daunted by the hardships imposed by this policy. “Housing,” he stated, “is one of most urgent needs of the new arrivals. That is why the Government of Israel “is one of most urgent needs of the new arrivals. That is why the Government of Israel is so appreciative of the efforts which you are making to help us solve this problem.” He spoke at a luncheon arranged by the American Trade Union Council at the Hotel Astor at which 150 labor leaders discussed the question of providing aid for housing projects in the Jewish state.
Charles S. Zimmerman, vice-president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, who recently returned from a special mission in Israel, called upon all trade unions in this country to spur sales of the $10,000,000 Amen-Israeli housing bond issue. As chairman of the executive committee of Amen-Israel Housing Corporation, Mr. Zimmerman reported that the corporation has completed all arrangements to speed the financing and construction of new homes in Israel.
