The Histadrut today called on all industrial workers in the country to stage a 30-minute work stoppage on Monday in solidarity with the striking metal workers.

The strike call, issued by the executive of the labor organization, exempted vital utilities and defense plants from the work stoppage order. It followed an unsuccessful meeting between labor officials and representatives of the manufacturers association to discuss settlement of the metal workers strike. The Histadrut said that “no basis for discussion” was found in the course of the meeting.

Premier David Gurion was today empowered by the Cabinet to call an emergency meeting of the body if the strike and the lockout in Israel’s metal industry should warrant such a step.
