900,000 Voters Will Be Eligible to Participate in Israel National Elections

Some 900,000 persons will be eligible to vote in the forthcoming general elections in Israel, it was announced in Parliament today. Registration for the elections will be based on residence as of March 1, 1951.

In anticipation of the elections, attempts are being made here to bring about the merger of the General Zionist Party with the Progressive Party. A meeting to this effect took place here today with the General Zionists represented by a group headed by Peretz Bernstein, while the spokesman for the Progressives were headed by Pinhas Rosen, Israel’s Minister of Justice.

Participating in the discussions were Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Race Halprin and Fred Monosson, all of the United States. The parley was called at the initiative of Mr. Monosson. A second meeting will be held within a few days.
