Israel today resumed drainage of the Huleh swamps in the area which is not disputed by Arab landowners. Yesterday it suspended the work on seven acres of disputed land.
Meanwhile, the Israel Government was expecting Maj. Gen. William E. Riley, United Nations Chief of Staff, to notify the Syrian Government to be prepared to sign a cease-fire agreement and comply with the order of the U.N. Security Council to restore order on the Israeli-Syrian frontier. On this move will depend Israel’s participation in the meeting of the Israel-Syrian Mixed Armistice Commission, which Con, Riley has proposed for Monday.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett today received Gen. Riley in Jerusalem and discussed with him the situation on the Israeli-Syrian frontier, as well as the problem of the resumption of the activities of the Mixed Armistice Commission.
