Israel diplomats in Hungary are criticized in a communique issued here by leaders of the Jewish Community, including the Rabbinical Council, protesting the activity of Israel’s Legation in Budapest on behalf of Jews who are being expelled from the Hungarian capital.

The communique also protests against the reports disseminated by “the Western press and radio” with regard to the treatment of Jews in Hungary. Declaring that there is no anti-Jewish discrimination in Hungary and that the practice of religion is permitted in the country, the communique says that the recent expulsions of Jews from Budapest are not due to the fact that the deportees are Jews, but because they were “rich capitalists and beneficiaries and supporters of the Herty regime.”
