Former Gestapo Commander, Charged with Killing 100,000 Jews, Goes on Trial in Warsaw

Lt. Gen, Jurgen von Stroop, commander of the Gestapo troops in Warsaw during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in 1943, went on trial here charged with the extermination of at least 100,000 Jews and with crushing “in brutal fashion” the Ghetto revolt. More than 100 Polish and Jewish witnesses are scheduled to be called to testify during the trial, which is expected to last more than a week.
