The German newspaper “Die Neue Zeitung” reports that leading world Jewish organizations have expressed their appreciation of the spirit in which the Bremen senate concluded a global agreement with Jewish organizations for restitution of heiress Jewish property. The newspaper asserts that in a letter to Wilhelm Kaiser, president of the Senate, the Jewish groups stressed the democratic attitude of Bremen “which will not be soon forgotten by the Jewish world.” (The state of Bremen agreed to pay $416,712 to the Jewish Restitution Successor Organization.)
The Society of Jewish Invalids of Germany has appealed to the World Jewish Congers headquarters here to lend support to its request that the Bavarian authorities make available a special grant to members of the Society, permitting them to leave Germany and settle elsewhere. The Society estimates that some 2,000,000 deutschemarks are involved.
The Society asserts that it was promised by the United States High Commission in Germany that the claims of its members would be supported by the American authorities. However, the Society says, the Office of the American Commission for Bavaria now opposes payment of the emigration payments.
